Reply • February 1 at 8:11 am. I recently read 'The Time-Crunched Triathlete' by Chris Carmichael. Having to commute once a week for an hour and a half each way also affects my training time. The aim of the book is to guide self-coached athletes with limited time to 'race winning' fitness in a maximum of 8 hours per week. It speaks to the “one season and out” slash and burn ethos that resonates in recreational endurance sports. I believe Joel Friel says you need to devote at least 13 hours per week to be a Cat 3 racer, and I believe Chris Carmichael requires about 8 hours per week in his Time Crunched Cyclist book. I picked up Carmichael's book because it sounded great for a guy in my position – someone who doesn't have 20 hours/week to devote to training but who wants to achieve the best possible fitness level with the time he has available. The Time-Crunched Triathlete: Race-Winning Fitness in 8 Hours a Week (The Time-Crunched Athlete) List Price: $19.95 ISBN13: 9781934030615 Condition: New Notes: BRAND NEW FROM PUBLISHER! The sub-title of Time Crunched Triathlete, “Race-Winning Fitness in 8 Hours a Week” irks me. ISBN13: 9781934030615; Condition: New; Notes: BRAND NEW FROM PUBLISHER! Exercise Plan: The Time-Crunched Triathlete: Race-Winning Fitness in 8 Hours a Week (The Time-Crunched Athlete). The Time-Crunched Triathlete: Race-Winning Fitness in 8 Hours a Week (The Time-Crunched Athlete). Tyler Hamilton also muddied the waters in his excellent book The Secret Race when he said that Armstrong never mentioned Carmichael and it appeared that his real coach was Michele Ferrari – was Carmichael just a shill coach? The Time-Crunched Triathlete presents a quickly-paced triathlon teaching program that delivers aggressive pace without the time demands of standard ways. The Time-Crunched Triathlete: Race-Winning Fitness in 8 Hours a Week will prepare triathletes for faster performances in sprint and Olympic distance triathlons while working within their busy lifestyles. This new workout is an evolution of my Time Crunched Trail Rider concept, which is to deliver a workout program solution for the rider who simply is too short on time to even go through a program manual, much less put everything in it together. With this new edition, cyclists can get fit faster with 8 time-crunched training programs for road racing, cyclocross, mountain bike events, Gran Fondos, century rides, and multi-day tours-all in under 6 hours a week. Along those lines, I recently purchased "The Time-Crunched Triathlete: Race-Winning Fitness in 8 Hours a Week" by Chris Carmichael in order to get some better ideas on overcoming the time management challenge. In fact, it's one of the only ways that time-crunched triathletes can achieve the workload necessary to continue making progress.
